Earlier this month, Carbon-Free Europe (CFE) released its 2023 Annual Decarbonisation Perspective (ADP) at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences. Joined by some of Europe’s foremost leaders in net-zero policy, CFE unveiled its cutting-edge energy systems models to evaluate the latest changes in energy policy and technology costs.

CFE’s founding leadership, keynote speakers, researchers, and policy experts explored this year’s policy theme: Scaling Clean Energy Innovation and Investments to Enhance Competitiveness. Here’s a look back at the launch.

Carbon-Free Europe co-founder Lindsey Walter unveiled the 2023 ADP in her opening remarks, highlighting the importance of CFE’s innovative modeling analysis in the face of Europe’s current energy crisis and the policies that will pave the path to net-zero.

Following Aleksandra Tomczak’s remarks, Carbon-Free Europe’s Senior Research Advisor Isabelle Chan facilitated a conversation with the modeling analysts behind the 2023 ADP, Ben Haley and Ryan Jones, to discuss the research methods used to execute CFE’s analysis.

Carbon-Free Europe closed its event with a policy panel and Q&A moderated by EURACTIV Energy and Environment Editor Frédéric Simon, who was joined by carbon-neutrality experts Luciana Miu, Head of Clean Economy at Energy Policy Group, Stefaan Vergote, Head of Unit Strategy and Economic Assessment in DG Climate Action at the European Commission, and Domien Vangenechten, Senior Policy Advisor for E3G.

Carbon-Free Europe leadership and staff are pleased to begin mapping out the Annual Decarbonisation Perspective for 2024 and expanding on its cutting-edge modeling and research on the European energy landscape.
